OUT FOR 110 RUNS

SOMERSET ELEVEN LYON BEST WITH 26 TOURISTS OPEN REPLY OVER 100 WITHOUT LOSS (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.j (Reed. July 28, 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 27. The cricket match at Taunton between Somerset and the touring Australian team opened promptly after early showers to-day. Longrigg won the toss and put the home team in. Somerset's innings closed for 110, and by the tea adjournment the Australians had replied with 106 without the loss of a wicket. Rain stopped play at the tea adjournment, after which there was no further play for the day.

The Australian team was announced as follows: D. G. Bradman, S. J. McCabe, IC. L. .Badcock, A. G. Chipperfield, A. L. Hassett, C. G. Barnes, E. S. White, W. J. O'Reilly, L. O'B. Fleetwood-Smith, F. A. Ward, C. W. Walker and W. A. Brown, twelfth man.

C. J. .Barnwell replaced Ingle in the Somerset team.

Somerset lost two wickets within 10 minutes and four for 41 runs. Lee was out to a catch at second slip, and Buse was run out due to Hassett's smart return.

McCabe Pulls Muscle

McCabe pulled a muscle in his right thigh and left the field. Barnes came on to bowl. Meyer, batting confidently for 20 minutes, hooked Fleetwood-Smith splendidly. He was caught at the edge of the square leg boundary.

Lyon, playing his first season since his return from East Africa, batted well in the early overs, but when O'Reilly and Fleetwood-Smith found the length, he was uneasy and mistimed drives. He gave a good high catch deep at mid-off. White, in his second over, bowled the patient left-hander, Longrigg. Rain stopped play at 12.45 o'clock. Play was resumed at 1.10 o'clock. Gimblett was easily caught in the covers off a shockingly crude stroke. Sixteen in Over Andrews and Wcllard hit out desperately. The former lifted Fleet-wood-Smith for a sixer, the ball falling adjacent to the river and being lost. Then Wellard drove Ward for two enormous sixers. The first went across the river and was recovered, but the second fell into the river and was lost. The over yielded 16 runs. Somerset was dismissed after a diverting, if technically imperfect, display lasting 130 minutes against bowlers who hopelessly outclassed them. Australia opened at 3.5 o'clock. Walker played splendidly, despite having no match, practice for seven weeks. Badcock was in great form and reached 50 in 55 minutes, and at tea the pair had scored 106 in 70 minutes.
