STORES BY PACKHORSE
TWO DAYS ON ROAD PLIGHT AT TE POHUE FOOD SUPPLIES BY AIR (Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, this clay. More than one ton of stores arrived at To Pohue to-day by means of 10 horses lent for the trip by various stations. The goods, which were intended for the local store, were two days on the return journey, and those in charge of the horses told an interesting story on their return to Te Pohue. They were Messrs N. Lurnsden, A. Holder, E. Smith, and H. Robins. : £•!
The present road was so bad. they said, that they used the old road, branched off at Glengarry and came out at Hope's. They proceeded to Brodie's and then across the hills to Newstead. They stated that gangs of men were at work on the Glengarry road, and it was hoped to have it cleared as far as Black's in three days, weather permitting.
Those who drop food from aeroplanes are excellent marksmen, according to Te Pohue residents. The parcels are cb/opped very accurately and.land near to the waiting people. The bread and butter is in good condition- when it is unpacked.
