ECZEMA SCOURGE FEARED
FARMERS IN OTAGO STOCK BAN URGED (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. From inquiries made yesterday at the local headquarters of the Farmers' Union, it appears that from the prominent farmers throughout Otago are not by any means satisfied with the Minister's reassuring statement to the effect that the outbreak of facial eczema in stock.in the North Island is neither contagious nor infectious.
I The Minister said that the occur- ; rence of disease in the different areas i in the North Island was merely due to the fact that the animals in those 1 areas were subject to similar dietetic I conditions, and that those conditions : did not exist in the South Island. "I have communicated with prominent farmers." said Mr. A. C. Cameron, the_ acting secretary, "and I find that they are unanimous that restrictions should be placed on all North Island stock coming to the South Island until ' the outbreak is under complete control. Veterinary opinion may not deem ■this necessary, but it would do much ! to allay the concern, and the amount I of hardship entailed upon a few !farj mers, who would be bringing stock to i the South Island, would be almost '. negligible."
