LAWN TENNIS
WAIROA CLUB’S MEETING OPENING DAY OCTOBER 23 (Herald Correspondent.) Members of the Wairoa Lawn Tennis Club, at the annual meeting, fixed the date for opening the new season as October 23. The committee reported that the courts were in good order, and that the season's prospects were satisfactory. Officers for the ensuing year were appointed as follows:—Patron, Mr. H. L. Harker; president, Mr. C. V. Chamberlain; vice-presidents, Messrs. McDonald and Hood; club captain, Dr. E. B. Jardine; hon. auditor, Mr. A. J. Steed; committee, Miss N. Nolan, Messrs. Bannister, Sweetman, Mowat and Reynolds. The lady supporters of the club were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their work throughout the past year on behalf of the club, the services of Mrs. H. H. O’Loughlen being mentioned particularly. A v»te of thanks was also accorded to the press. After some discussion on a motion offered by Mr. H. Trewby. regarding the effect upon club interests of the projected National Council of Sport, the incoming officers were recommended to keep closely in touch with developments.
