DOG RACING IN N.Z.
DEVELOPMENT OF SPORT 12 CLUBS AFFILIATED A letter received recently from Mr. R. Dolman, secretary of the Poverty Bay Professional Athletic and Cycling Club, from the secretary of the National Coursing Association of New Zealand, gives some idea of the extent of the sport of hare and tin hare racing in New Zealand. Mr. H. F. Paton, secretary of the Coursing Association, states that at present the following clubs are affiliated to the association: —WaLhi, Huntly, Poverty Bay, Wairarapa, Christchurch, North Otago, Dunedin, South Otago, Nightcaps, Wellington, Southland, and Metropolitan Auckland.
The writer mentions that a new club, which has been formed in Wellington, is progressing well and hopes to rnn a speed meeting shortly. Already 650 shares have been taken up in' the new company in Dunedin. This company, which will be going to allotment this month, will be operating through a club when the plant and lighting are installed. He expected that Wanganui and Dannev(rke clubs would be affiliating shortly.
Mr. Payton desired to point out that any club not affiliated would be left out on their own. It was explained that this would possibly result in greyhound owners who competed at an unaffiliated club's meeting being disgualified from taking part in other fixtures. The letter mentions also that strong representations have been made to Ministers of the Crown regarding tbtalisator permits for this sport, but the matter'probably will have to go before Parliament.
