FINES AT OPOTIKI SELLING AETER HOURS LIOUOR F9R NATIVES A number of licensing cases came before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court in Opotiki yesterday, when a licensee and a barman .were; fined. * Several men were fined for being on licensed premises after hours, while there were cases also concerning natives. John O'Sullivan, licensee of the Royal Hotel, Opotiki, pleaded not guilty to a charge of selling liquor after hours on September 18 and guilty to opening his premises for the sale of liquor. He was convicted and fined £5 and costs 10s on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the other. Terrence O'Sullivan, barman, was fined £2 and 10s costs for supplying liquor after hours. Maurice Oxley Kidd, Russell Henderson and Thomas Black, were fined £1 and costs 10s for being found on the premises after hours. John O'Sullivan also pleaded guilty to exposing liquor for sale after hours on October 2, and not guilty to charges of selling and opening his premises after hours. He was convicted and fined £5 and 10s costs on the charge of selling and convicted and .discharged on the charges of opening his premises and exposing liquor for sale. Terrence O'Sullivan, barman, was fined £2 and 10s costs for supplying liquor after hours. David Morrison, George Craig, Malcolm Bishop Abbott, John Kelly, Peter Gallagher, Frank Wells, George Stacey, Harry Hubbard, John Craig, and Charles Morris were fined £1 and 10s costs for being unlawfully on premises. Mr. Hudson appeared for all the parties in the above cases. Marea Peawini, a married woman, was convicted and ordered to pay 15s costs for supplying liquor to prohibited persons, and for supplying liquor to female native was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months if called upon. For supplying liquor to natives for consumption off licensed premises she was fined £2 and 15s costs. Jack Pereniki, Bernie White and Paora Apanui were each fined £1 and 15s costs for breaches of their prohibition orders. Wiki Kahika was convicted and fined £2 and costs 10s for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, and for supplying a native in a nativeproclaimed area was fined £2 and 10s costs. William Bowman was fined £2 and costs 10s for procuring liquor while prohibited, and was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s for aiding and abetting' in the supply of liquor. Hector Robert Kelly and Leslie Thomas Kinzett were each fined £1 and costs 10s for being found on the Masonic Hotel premises after hours on September 17.
