KING AND QUEEN
PERSISTENT RUMOURS AUSTRALIAN VISIT DENIED LONDON, Sept. 23. No arrangements are being made, or are contemplated yet, for a visit of the King and Queen to Australia in 1940. Buckingham Palace officials made that clear to-day. Stories that the King and Queen contemplate such a visit continue to circulate. Their foundation is believed in London to be a statement by the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. J, A. Lyons, when he returned to Australia after the Coronation. A denial that a Royal visit had been planned was issued on August 26. It was then stated that London newspapers had reprinted a quotation from a speech by Mr. Lyons, mentioning the possibilities of a visit in 1940.
Palace officials said that, while there was always a possibility of the King and Queen visiting the Dominions, no arrangements had been discussed yet.
