Mr. William R. McCall. who was believed to have been the first white child born in the district, which later became known as the Thames goldfields, has died in Auckland. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. McCall, who arrived in New Zealand in 1855 in the same ship as Bishop Williams, the Cashmere, in order to assist with the missionary work among the Maoris.
