(Herald Correspondent.) The financial statement submitted to the Wairoa Harbour Board at Monday's meeting recommended the passing of accounts totalling £4B 19s Td. The Wairoa Borough Council's deposit is £2OOO. The following figu res were subm i 1 ted: Wa iroa.— Wharfages, £24 Is Id CI93G, £2B 9s 9d); port charges, £l3 9s (£l3 13s); harbour improvement rate, £7 Is 2d (£7 4s Id). Waikokopu Harbour improvement rate, £(> 15s id (£ll 8s 9d); port charges, £l9 ,17s 9d (£26 1.9 s 0d); Public Works Department, £67 16s 4d (£43 4s); wharf charges, £lO Us lid (£22 6s Od). Discussing with a leading farmer the probable docking percentage for Wairoa County, the Herald's representative was informed that the farmer did not think it would be much, if anything, above 80 per cent all round. So much depends for a correct estimate on the method of computation. One run, Opoho, docked 90 per cent, and, taken all round, 80 per cent is considered good.
Mr. W. 11. Flint, who was appointed by the Wairoa Borough Council to till the vacancy caused by the resignation of Archdeacon Butterfield, was formally welcomed by the chairman, Mr. P. J. Brewster, a't the Hospital Board meeting yesterday. He paid a tribute, to Mr. Flint's past services on the board, and congratulated him, and the Borough Council on his appointment. Mr, Flint made a brief reply.
At a pleasant function at the Te Rehunga School. Southern Hawke's Bay, recently, pupils and parents farewelled the headmaster and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. B. Goodwin, who during their residence at Te Rehunga had done very much more than their duty towards the pupils. Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin departed later en route to Mohafca, at which place Mr. Goodwin will be headmaster of the native school.
