IRRITATED DROVER

SMASHES A WINDSCREEN CAR AMONG SHEEP A drover named Edward Leonard ■lrwin, appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., at Whakatane, charged with causing wilful damage to a motor car.

The circumstances of the case were rather unusual. Constable Cummings told the court that on the day of the offence he was motoring near Matata when he met a mob of sheep which he passed through slowly. A car was coming along behind him and when it got among the sheep the accused approached with a stick and smashed the windscreen.

Mr. Hammerton for the defence, said that defendant became irritated as the car drove too fast through the sheep and threw the stick at the car not intending to cause damage.

A fine of £1 and costs 10s was imposed. Money for repairs to the screen was forwarded,
