COMBINED MEETING TV TO R - ORG ANT SER ’ S VISIT (Herald Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening both groups combined to meet Mr. P. Martin Smith, Palmerston North, tutororganiser, who is spending a week in the Wairoa portion of his very large district. Mr. Mitchell, leader of the Maori circle, was chairman of the meeting and welcomed Mr. Smith. In reply, Mr. Smith said that he considered that Wairoa occupied a pivotal place for W.E.A. work, owing to there being so many centres for prospective Maori circles as well ns European, while the many public works camps also would be visited in an endeavour to form groups. Mr. Smith’s subject for the evening was “Some aspects of the present world situation." In a lecture covering a wide range, the lecturer summarised the position of the great nations to-day, traced the rise of modern system of government and their points of conflict, and gave his view of the trend of world events.

At the close of the lecture many questions were asked and answered and a good discussion ensued. Mr. Teague, secretary of the European group, thanked Mr. Smith on behalf of both circles for his enlightening lecture, and the serving of supper gave further opportunity for discussion of the various points raised by the lecturer.

During his stay in the district Mr, Smith intends visiting the Public Works Department’s camps in the Waikaremoana district, and also at Waikokopu, Kopuawhara, Bartlett’s, and Tikiwhata, after which he will proceed to the educational conference in Wellington.
