NEW ZEALAND CUP

VALUE OP STAKE RAISED The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club, at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, increased the stake for the New Zealand Cup, to be decided in November next, from £1575, including a gold cup valued at £75, to £2OOO, the winner to receive £1325 and a gold cup valued at £75, the second horse £4OO, and the third horse £ 200.

The winner, after the declaration of the weights, of any race of a value of £250, to the winner or of any race or races of a collective value of £SOO, will be liable to be rehandicapped. In recent years these amounts were £2OO and £4OO respectively. Tudor is now at Riccarton in charge of D. O’Connor, who will carry out his preparation for the Grand national meeting. The Grasper, in the same stable, has been thrown out of commission owing to repeated attacks of bleeding.
