GIRL GUIDES (Herald Correspondent.) A special committee meeting was called to discuss the position of the l’olaga Bay Girl Guide company, at me Barista Hall, yesterday afternoon. Those present were, Mrs. L. Bal,our, provincial commissioner, Mrs. J. McDonald, district commissioner, anci Mrs. Cowan, Gisborne, Mesdcwnes J. Li. Reeves, president, D. G. S. MacDonald, secretary, A. Donald, Moore, sen., C. Macintosh, C. U. O’Connell, A. Cranswick, J. F. Lawrence, and vL F. Hurlstone. Mrs. Balfour occupied the chair. Mrs. -Reeves welcomed the visitors irom Gisborne, and in a short address explained that the resignations of the Misses IVI. and J. Milne, who were leaving the district, had left the company without a guider. Both Misses Mary and Jean Milne had done good work for the company and their departure was a distinct loss to the dis-vi-ict. Mrs. Reeves thanked the memoers of the retiring committee for .heir untiring efforts on behalf of me Guides. The position was fully discussed and it was decided to suspend the company until February, hoping in the meantime to procure a suitable guider. A presentation was made to the Misses Milne as a token of the committee's appreciation of their services to the company. They were the recipients, also, of charming posies from Mrs. Reeves. The secretary, Mrs. MacDonald, on behalf of the committee, presented Mrs. Reeves with a book, and thanked her for all she had done to promote the interests of the Girl Guides in Tolaga Bay. Mrs. Reeves suitably replied. A delicious afternoon tea was dispensed at the conclusion of the meeting. Women’s Division of Farmers’ Union The monthly meeting of the Mangatuna native branch of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the Hinemaurea meeting house those present being Mesdames Kopua, Huhu, Kirikiri, Puipui, Keelan, Maurirere, Handmarsh, Tautau, and the president, Mr. H. P. Martin.

The roll call was “How I met m> Husband.” The winners' of the Maori kit competition were Mrs, Puipui and Mrs. Kirikiri. After judging the competition Mrs. Tautau, sen., offered at a later meeting to give a demonstration of the original and correct method ol kit-making. Mrs. Puipui spoke of the work done at Tokomaru Bay, at the opening meeting of the division there. The proposal to form a branch of the Plunket Society at Mangatuna was discussed, and it was decided that this could be accomplished with the help of the Tolaga Bay branch. After the meeting a delicious afternoon tea v/as served by the hostesses, Mrs. Puipui and Mrs., Kopua.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy Turnbull, Edgecombe. were recent visitors to Tolaga Bay, being the guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Bartram.—Miss Joan MacDonald is visiting Miss H. Veitch, Hangaroa.—Mr. and Mrs. E. Cranswick, who have been staying with Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Bartram, returned t* Whakatane yesterday.
