The loss of 32 ewes through worrying by dogs is reported by Mr. John Blair, a well-known farmer of Toiro, South Otago. The sheep were found dead or dying, in a creek that runs through the property, and from the bites visible on some of the carcases it was clear that the animals had been hounded by dogs to their death. Mr. Blair estimates his loss at £SO. So far the dogs have not been discovered.

A net loss of £517 is shown by the Gisborne railway working account for the four weeks ended May 29, as against a net loss of £289 for the same period last year. The revenue for the four weeks was £1524, compared with £I2BO for the 1930 period, while the expenditure was £2041, an increase of £472 on last, year’s figure. For the two months, April and May, the line showed a net loss of £690, as against a net loss of £612 in 1936.
