REMOVAL OF GUM TREES
SIX IN FOX STREET OBSCURING THE SUN Six large gum trees growing m upper Fox street are to be removed, commencing from the Cook County boundary. The Gisborne Borough Council reached this decision last night after considering a report from the reserves committee, acting on a request from a property owner, made an inspection of the locality. "These trees owing to their height,” the committee reported, “are neither useful nor ornamental and obscure the sun from the houses on the opposite side of the street. If considered necessary a smaller and more suitable type of tree could be planted in their place."
Mr. W. Peryer wrote asking for permission to remove one or two gum trees in upper Fox street because he and the late Mr. J. O’Meara planted them years ago and tended them for several years at their own cost.
It was decided to reply that the council could not accede to the request. The council agreed to call tenders for the purchase and removal of the trees.
