SUSTENANCE FRAUDS
CLEAN UP INTENDED NO MERCY IN FUTURE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. “We propose to have a general clean up,” said the acting-Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, commenting to-day on the question of sustenance frauds.
“There have been many cases where men have made mistakes through ignorance and the department has treated offenders lightly, but it has no mercy or consideration for men who deliberately indulge in frauds.”
UP TO £25 IN FINES CASES AT WANGANUI (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. For giving false statements of earnings for the purpose of obtaining unemployment relief, James Edward Hayes was to-day fined £lO with costs, the amount obtained being £7 15s.
Stanley Mosen, who received £56 15s, was fined £25.
Qeorge Edwin Reid, who received £5 17s, was fined £6. John Sheahan, who received £l2 Is Bd, was fined £2O. Mr. J. T. Salmon, S.M., presided.
