AID TO UNEMPLOYED

£8(M)00 SUBSIDY OFFER FULL TIME WORK AIM METROPOLITAN AREA (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. An offer of a subsidy of £BO,OOO from the employment promotion fund for the purpose of giving full time work for four months to 1800 unemployed in the Auckland metropolitan area was made to-day by the actingMinister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, at a conference with representatives of local bodies in the city and surrounding districts.

The Minister, who was accompanied by Mr. W. Bromley of the employment division of the Labour Department, stressed the need for tackling the unemployment problem in a nonpolitical way and gave an assurance to the conference that a man who refused work when offered would receive scant sympathy from the Government.

NATIVE LANDS SCHEME DEVELOPMENT WORK MAORIS FROM NORTH (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. An exodus of northern Maoris to take up developmental activities under the Native Lands Department in Rotorua and Tokaanu districts, commenced to-day when two special carriages of the southbound express were occupied by migrants. Thirtythree men will go to the National Park and a further 30 to Rotorua. The Tuwharetoa tribe, Taupo, offered 20,000 acres in that district for the employment of Ngapuhis on developmental work. About 200 volunteers are required altogether, and it is believed that there will be no difficulty in securing this number, the recruiting mostly being done among single relief workers.
