SINO-JAP. CLASH PROTEST TO TOKIO (Reed. July 10, 9.30 a.m.) PEKIN, July 9. A minor clash at dawn preceded the withdrawal of the Sino-Japanese forces to opposite banks of tbe Yungting River. The Chinese Foreign Office has protested to Tokio in regard to Japan’s provocative activities. The Japanese Ambassador is hastening from Nanking -in the endeavour to reach an amicable settlement. After a brief clash due to a further misunderstanding Chinese militia replaced the Chinese regula'rs occupying the Wangping area in accordance with the agreement and the majority of the Japanese have been withdrawn.
