MR NASH HONOURED CEREMONY AT CAMBRIDGE (From a Special Correspondent) LONDON, June 12. The degree of Doctor of Law (honoris causa) was conferred upon the New Zealand Minister of Finance and Minister of Marketing, Mr. Walter Nash, at Cambridge on Thursday. The congregation was held in the Senate House and was of unusual interest. The Chancellor presided for the first time under his new title of Earl Baldwin of Bewdley. The usual procession was formed in the colonnade of the Old Schools, and the chancellor entered the Senate House attended by the university officers, beads of colleges, professors, and doctors. Notable Visitors Honoured In addition to Mr. Nash, honorary degrees of doctor ot law were conferred upon the Maharajah Gaekwar of Baroda; Mr. J. A. Lyons, Prime Minister of Australia; Mr. E. Lapointe, K.C., Minister of Justice, Dominion of Canada; Mr. N. C. Havenga, Minister of Finance, Union ol’ South Africa; Sir Muhammad Zafrulla Khan, member of the Executive Council of the Governor-General of India; and Sir Donald Charles Cameron. The orator, Mr. T. R. Glover, St. John’s, began by recalling how, 51 years ago, Ministers representing “all the Britains” were received in the Senate House, and presented "by his predecessor not only in separate addresses, but also in a general l preface, the prophetic words of which had been signally confirmed. Dominions Closer Together The Dominions within themselves had drawn more closely into union, said the orator, who instanced especially his native Canada. Similarly, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, were most devoted to their own people, while they acknowledged one Empire and one King. The orator alluded to a second occasion on which distinguished oversea Ministers, including Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Mr Richard John Seddon, had been honoured at Cambridge. After the congregation, a luncheon was given in the Hall of Clare College by the master and fellows. The vice-chancellor, Mr. G. 11. A. Wilson, master of Clare College, proposed the toast of “The Recipients of Honorary Degrees,” and took the opportunity of congratulating the chancellor on the recent honours which the King had conferred upon him. Mr. Lyons responded to the toast. In the evening a dinner was given by the master and fellows of Trinity College.
