BRIDE-ELECT ENTER - TAINED (Herald Correspondent.) The Patutahi Gardening Circle met on Thursday afternoon in the Patutahi Hall. The meeting was presided over by the new convenor, Mrs. E. R. Renner. Apologies of absence were received from Mesdames Clark, G. V. Smith, CusacK, Peel and Miss Picken. A six months' programme was drawn up, after which the members enjoyed a talk on autumn foliage and shrubs by Mrs. Renner. At the conclusion of the business, to-day's bride, Miss E. Ballard,, was entertained by the circle, of which she has been a member for some years. Mrs. Renner wished Miss Ballard every happiness and presented lior with a posy of autumn leaves, berries and flowers, and a large collection of gifts. The bride-to-be, assisted by her sister, Mrs. W. Phin, opened the parcels, afterwards thanking the members for their gifts in a neat speech.
A competition, a jumble wedding, was won by Mrs. Ritchie. The guests present were Mesdames Ballard;- W. Phin, Jones and Saggers, while the members included Mesdames E. B» Renner, IT. Ritchie, Ladd, sen., R. Bade. A. Waddell, M. Ilogan, G. Scragg. H. Atkins, F. Lange and J. Robb; Misses A. Ritchie and R, Atkins. Kitchen EveningMiss »E. Ballard, whose marriage to Mr. R. Jones takes place to-day, was the guest of honour at a kitchen evening given by Mrs. Kennaway at her home on Wednesday evening. The guests were entertained with a card game and two competitions, the winners of which were Mesdames Libline, Baty, Butler and Miss Ballard.
The guest of honour was presented with a useful assortment of kitchen utensils and wished all happiness. Miss Ballard suitably responded.
Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Kennaway, .Mr. and Mrs. P. 1 labgood s Mesdames Powell. Ballard, Libline, Wells, Baty, Burgess and Butler; Misses K. Burgess and E. Butler.
To mark the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, a karaka tree was planted in the Patutahi School grounds on Thursday morning. The tree was planted by the chairman of the committee, Mr. T. W. Sewell, in the presence of teachers and children. Mrs. W. Phin and her small son Peter are the guests of Mr. and Mrs., Ballard for the Jones-Ballard wedding.
