AMATEAUR ATHLETICS

PAST YEAR REVIEWED A DIFFICULT SEASON FINANCES MAINTAINED "We feci confident that all members will agree that the season now closing has proved a very difficult one owing to so many meetings having.to he abandoned through rain, but despite that the finances of the club have been well maintained ami the cause of amateur sport has been well fostered by the club, states the annual report of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club to be presented at the seventeenth annual meeting of members and supporters m the club's social rooms to-morrow night. After reviewing the committee and electric light meetings held during the year and thanking all those who had helped the club, the report continued:--'•Finance.—-The credit balance of the club is very gratifying, when it is remembered that during the season the club lost half of its nights owing to ram. However, the committee collected a large sum from its social functions, thereby making it possible to show a profit. "Inter-Club Fixtures.—Three very enjoyable contests took place—two between Napier and Gisborne, in connection with which we congratulate Napier on winning the H.B. Herald Shield at Gisborne. The other visit was paid to Opotiki, where the team competed against Hamilton, Riotorua and Opotiki athletes for a banner presented by the Mayor of Opotiki. Mr. G. S. Moody. Gisborne won the'banner by a good margin of points "New Zealand Championships.—Rlie club was represented by Messrs. G. Quinn and L. Grey. Mr. Quinn performed very creditably and annexed the 220yds. title and came second in the 100yds., a great performance. Mr. Grey also performed creditably in being placed third iu the pole vault, clearing 10ft. Gin. and breaking his Gisborne record. "Centre Championships.—The centre championships were held at Napier this year in pouring rain. Centre championships were annexed bv the following: ICOyds., 220yds. and 440yds., G. Qumn; shot putt, J. Algie; pole vault and high jump, L. Grey: hop, step and jump and broad jump, G. Phillips. "Club Chairman.—Mr. C. Greig handed in his resignation early in the season and at the request of a deputation Mr. Wildish filled the vacancy. The club placed on record the services rendered by Mr. C. Greig, during his term of office." TROPHY WINNERS 1935-36 SEASON The presentation ,of trophies won during the 1935-36 amateur athletic season is to bo made at the annual meeting of the Gisborne club to-mor-row night.
