PRIVATE LEGISLATION
PROCEDURE IN HOUSE MIL SAVAGE’S WARNING (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. When Mr. 'F. W. Schramm (Lab., Auckland East) moved in the House of Representatives to-day to suspend standing orders to enable a private bill to be introduced and passed through all stages, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, issued a warning to members and local bodies that in future such bills would.be blocked. The standing orders of the House he said, were there for a purpose, and should not be lightly set aside. There was a semblance of justification in the present case, but that was the same in many other cases. The standing orders of the House should -be strictly adhered to.
Mr. Schramm gave notice of his intention to introduce the Napier (las Company Amendment and Enlarging Bill, the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Amendment Bill, the Bay of Islands Harbour Amendment Bill, and the Auckland Harbour Board Empowering Bill. They were each read a first time.
