DENIAL OF DEADLOCK
AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN
WOOL BUYING IN AFRICA
f’ANBERRA, Sept. 16.
Sir Henry Gullett. the Minister in charge of Trade Treaties, has denied the report that the new treaty negotiations with Japan have reached a deadlock.
He added: “Many proposals and counter-proposals will probably be made before tin agreement with Japan is reached. There is no possibility of Australia bartering wool for Japanese rayons and cotton goods, and Japan, so far, has not sought to do
Messrs. Winclicom'be, Carson and Company, woolhrokcrs, of Sydney, have received a cablegram from South Africa stating that the Japanese competition at the Port Elizabeth wool -ales was exceptionally strong. South African prices were 15 per cent above Australian. Japan bought SO per .cent of the offerings.
