QUALITY AND QUANTITY

(British Official Wireless.)

(Iced. 9.30 a.in. RUGBY, Sept. 10. Sir Kingsley Wood, the Minister ot Health, speaking at Plymouth on the problem of nutrition, said that the eonsumption of food of all kinds in the United Kingdom had grown considerably. To-day it probably would total over 25,000,000 tons yearly. The consumption yearly of eggs, fruit and vegetables had greatly increased.

There undoubtedly had been, at the same time, a considerable improvement in food standards. Sixty years ago, .15,000 samples only were submitted annually to the public analysts and over 19 per cent was found to be adulterated, or not up to standard. Last year, over 143,000 samples had been submitted, the highest oil record, and the percentage of adulterated foods or those not. up lo standard was only a little over 5 per cent.
