A. AND P. SOCIETY'S BALL (Herald Correspondnnt.) The Nnhuka A. ami I>. Society held a most successful hall sit l.he L.U.S. Hall hist Friday evening. Owing to the large amount o'i' influenza that had invaded nearly every home in K'uhaka it was feared the attendance would greatly suiter. However, there was a splendid response and the A. and I'. Society will benelit to the extent of about, £9. The organising was entirely in the hands of the ladies, of whom Mrs. i J . J. Brewster was the organiser, with a few willing ■ helpers. The evening proved most successful. The hall was tastefully decollated with bush greenery and coloured lights, and the Klick Klack orchestra, Wairoa, supplied the music. Messrs. R. Steed, jun., and F. Hickling acted as M.C.s. A 9 delightful sapper was supplied by the lady members of the society and numerous other friends.

During an intermission Mr. K. Stewart, president of the society, thanked .Mrs. Brewster and everyone who had contributed to the success of the evening, FAREWELL TO FARMER. A very pleasing function took place at the showgrounds hist Saturday at the conclusion of the annual meeting of: the Nulutkn A. and V. Society, when the newly-elected president, Mr. 11. R. Hickling, on behalf of the society, made a presentation of a handsome suitcase 10 Mr. (.'. 11. Tidswcll in recognition of his past valuable services. Mr. Hickling expressed his regret, at the departure of Mr. Tidswell to Ruatahuna. Ho had always been a very valuable mini, and had given of his best; so generously. Air. K. Stewart, past-president, in endorsing these remarks, added that when working bees were arranged, as well as Show meetings, Mr. Tidswcll was very seldom absent and always very keen to see the task a success. Mr. B. Richardson, the newlyappointed vice-president, supported what had been said, and considered the departing member was one of the keenest mem hers. Mr. R. Steed added his tribute, recalling the happy-go-lucky days of years ago. Mr. M. K. Shaw referred to Mr. Tidswcll as one of the best neighbours, and certainly a lesson to the younger members. Mr. G. D. Tod eulogised the departing guest, with whom he had been associated for 20 years and stated that, although his road out was often four miles of deep mud, it did not deter hi in from, helping with Show activities. Mr. 11. Mclntyre, one of the society's oldest members, paid his tribute to the generosity of Mr. Tidswcll. Other tributes were paid by Messrs. .7. Austin, ■ \V. Xepia and G. J. Brewster, the secretary.

Another presentation followed, made by Mr. J. Goldstone, president of the Nuhalca Sports Club. In handing Mr Tidswcll a fountain pen, he said it was with deep regret he viewed the departure of Mr. Tidswcll, who had been such a keen supporter of the sports club. Mr. Tidswcll. in reply, thanked the speakers for their remarks, and the gifts. It always had been a pleasure to help the society along. As to the Sports Club, he considered it was a great asset to the Show. The singing of "For lie's a Jolly Good Fellow," brought the gathering jo a close.
