ROYAL DEFENCE CORPS
PLANS IN BRITAIN HOME SERVICE UNITS LONDON, May 20. The Secretary for War, Mr. A. DuffCooper, in a letter to a Manchester correspondent, reveals that the Mar Office is planning a new national defence force. Tho correspondent wrote pointing out that numbers of ex-servicemen were anxious to enrol themselves tor the defence of their country and suggesting tho creation of a home defence force. Mr. Duff-Cooper, replying, said the War Office at present is considering the establishment of such a force by reorganising and enlarging the existing Royal Defence Corps, giving opportunities to ex-servicemen to help in the defence of their country. The formation of a Royal Defence Corps was .announced two years ago, but the corps was never properly organised. It was to consist of middleaged cx-servicemen who, in wartime, would run essential home services and assist the air and other defence schemes.
