It is something of a testimonial to the climate of South Canterbury that a fine crop of lemons has been ripened and harvested in a garden 30 miles south of Timaru. The lemon tree is m the garden of Mrs. K, T. Barber, of Morven, nine, miles from Waimate. liie tree is in the open garden and has no shelter other than a macrocarpa hedge that keeps off the east winds.
