HOUSE-WARMING PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) { The lino new residence of Mr. and Mrs. T. W, U. Tombleson was the scene of much gaiety on Friday evening, the occasion being a .house wanning, which took the form of a surprise party, about 30 people attending. The evening was taken up with dancing and singing, which took place in; the spacious drawing-room. Tho Khck Klack orchestra, Wairoa, supplied tho music. A delightful supper was served in the dining-room, the tables being tastefully dteeoratcd. The wet. and stormy night prevented a number of people irom attending. A very jolly party 'broke up in the early hours ol tlie morning. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Brewster, Mr. and Mrs. 11. Bayley inn., Mr. and Mrs. J. Goldstone, Mr. and Mrs. P. Uickling, Mr. and Mrs. Sylian, Mr. and Mrs. J. Powdrcll, Mr. and Mrs. K. Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. K, Tombleson : Misses I). Short and T. Mackenzie; Messrs. E. Bullmore, "•«»"" kin, A. Uickling, J. The Nuliaka branch o£ the* New Zealand Labour Party held a very successful OUchre tournament and dance at Unity Hall last Wednesday, there being about 90 people present. Euchre parties ore becoming very popular in Nuhnka. lhc ladies provided a very appetising supper, the. danae music was played by Miss N. Mataira, while Mr. K. Tucker acted as M.C. 'Hie prize-winners were as under:—Euchre prizes.—Ladies: Miss E. King. Gentlemen: Mr. J. Lewis. Monte Carlo.-Ludies: Miss M. Pave Gentlemen: Mr. A. Raroa. Spot waltz. Mrs. T. Waerea and Mr. T. Torowhiti. Statue waltz: Mrs. E. Loader and Mr. N. Clough. ...... A most enjoyable dance was held at the L.D.S. Hall on Thursday evening, given by the local Druids, assisted by member* from Wairoa. Hie attendance was good. The hall was tastefully decorated with greenery, intermingled with the Druids' colours, gold and black. The Kllck Klack orchestra provided the music. During an interval delightful solos were rendered bv Miss Lilian Webber and the well-known duetists, .Tacky and Audrey Smith, were heard at their best. A delicious supper was dispensed by the ladies. Mr. C. Sehwass acted as M.C. Mr. Jimmy Smith met with an accident whilst riding in his spring cart. Mr. Smith, who is a heavy man, fell backwards, hitting the hard road with considerable force. His back was hurt and he was conveyed to the Wairoa Hospital. Grave news has been received with regard to the condition of Constable H. Staniland, Nuhaka. He has now been a hospital patient for. the past nine months, showing little improvement. Mrs. Staniland and 'her two daughters have been sent for.
