SHEEP DOG TRIALS
WALNC-AKE CLUB'S MEET LONG HEAD TO C. HYLAND ALMOST PERFECT EFFORT An almost perfect run was registered by the veteran" trials dog, C. .J. Hyland's Jock, in the opening event at the Waingake Sheepdog Trial Club's annual field meeting, decided yesterday. Jock won the long head by a comfortable margin from G. 11. Morice's Laddie, but the class as a whole was well contested, and the second, third and fourth dogs were separated by half-points in eacii case. The judge of the trials is Mr. C. Parkinson, of Whatatutu, wellknown in previous years as a prominent competitor at district and North Island meetings. 1 His adjudications on the first class gave general satisfaction. A contributory feature to the general high standard of performance in the opening class was the steadiness of the sheep, loaned by Mrs. Pyke. 'Details of the award in the first class were as under : Long Head (34 entries). Maximum points: Head 17, pull 17, ring 4, command 12, total 50 points. O. J. Hyland's Jock—l 7, 16, 4, 12; total 49 points 1 G. H. Morice's Laddie—l 6, 15, 4, Hi ; total 46i points 2 K. Spence's Dick—ls 4, 16; 34> I 1: total 46 points 3 R. Shank's Jean— 16, lsi, 3, 11; Z total 45i points |* The special award for local maiden competitor running a maiden dog was won by F. Bullen, whose dog Jock gained 39 points. " The second event on the programme, the short head, was expected to conclude to-day.
