TIME TO STOP KILLING
APPEAL MADE TO CORTES FACTION WARS IN SPATN FURTHER FATAL RIOTING (F.U-e. Tnl.'Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Rccd. April 16, 2.50 p.m.) MADRID, April 15. Students of a school of mining and engineering struck to-day as a protest, against, the employment of French engineers. A general strike paralysed Pampelnna, where milk was poured from lorries and vegetables were thrown into u river. Soldiers were requisitioned to make bread. Two people were killed and 15 were wounded at Jerez La Frontera, the headquarters of the sherry industry, when the police prevented Communists setting fire to Carmelite and Franciscan convents. The demonstrators proclaimed a strike of 24 hours and imprisoned several priests. Eight Wing followers, of whom one was wounded, while two people were killed and six wounded at Geta. Senor Azana, in his initial speech in the Cortes, sketched the grave national situation and announced the preparation of laws to reinforce the revenues, procure reforms, consolidate the political representation of the lower classes, and enable close co-operation with the Leagtue of Nations in order to organise peace, while preserving a policy of self determination. It was high time, he said, that Spaniards ceased shooting one another. The session was adjourned after the soprano voices of women deputies led a storm of interruptions.
