REPLY BY MR. COATES
RETIREMENT RUMOUR
(Per Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, last night
“If you ask me about rumours that are circulating I will simply say that they may or may not be true. If you ask me straight out whether I am retiring from politics, my reply is that I am still a member of Parliament, and I am not the kind that runs awav. ’ ’
This was the answer given by the ttt. Hon. .T. G. Coates when he was asked whether there was any foundation for rumours that he intended to abandon political life for a career in business.
These reports which have been widely circulated in Auckland for some weeks were mostly to the effect that he was about to accept directorships, executive or otherwise, in various companies. Upon the names of these concerns, however, rumour did not agree.
