(Herald Correspondent.) The November pay-out to the suppliers to the Wairoa . dairy factory totalled £6570, the basis being lOd per lb for finest butterfat. Wairoa's first wheelbarrow "derby"run in connection with the forthcoming Queen Carnival—lias produced so far nine entries, and more are likely to be forthcoming by, "Derby Day," next Saturday.

A function at Frasertown in aid of the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association proved most successful. The Regal Orchestra provided the music, and a competition was won by Miss T. Parfitt, Palmerstoii road, Gisborue. A successful dance in aid of the Wairoa Tennis Club took place on Saturday night. The Klick Klack orchestra provided the music, and a pleasant time was spent by all the patrons. Last Thursday evening! at St. Paul's Church schoolroom the Wairoa Repertory Society held its first banquet. All the arrangements were excellent. A number of toasts were proposed and responded to, and items were contributed by members. Mr. C. Kent kindly installed a radio set, which added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. Dancing and 'competitions were indulged in. Early in the New Year a three-act play is to be put into rehearsal.

Five candidates, four of them from the Wairoa District High School, are at present sitting for the matriculation examination. The supervisor is the Ven.

Archdeacon Bufteifield. . Constable W. Bacon, who has been stationed in Wairoa for the past eight years and who has been transferred to take charge of Tinui station, Casllepoint County, left with his wife and family on Sunday. On Friday afternoon a number of the Wairoa Justices of the Peace and members of the local Bar tendered him a farewell. Mr. J. Corkill. after a very eulogistic speech, asked Constable Bacon to accept a number of household Etifts as a- token of esteem. Mr. C. V. Chamberlain, on behalf of the Bar and the 8.5. A.. also voiced good wishes for the departing constable and his wife. Other speakers were Mr. Butcher, clerk of the court. Sergeant Clarke and Messrs. J. U. Gillespie, R. IT. Bannister, V. E. Winter. V. Eraser, and Constable Gatehouse.

The conceit by 2ZP station on Thursday night was very successful. A good programme was presented and the executive committee tendered its thanks to Mr. E. A. Perry and the members of 2ZP studio 'for the fine effort, which makes it likely that Wairoa's goal of £IOO may yet be reached.
