PIKE OFFICER RETIRES

(Per Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, this day

Superintendent J. J. Salmon, of the Dunedin Citv Fire Brigade, will retire on July 31, after completing SO .years in the fire service. He has been retired by the Metropolitan Fire Board on VI months' notice, six months on active service, and the remaining six months on full pay. Mr. Salmon joined the old Dunedin Volunteer Brigade in 1890, and was appointed Superintendent on June 18, 1929. Deputy Superintendent R. H. Price has. been appointed superintendent, and one of the brigade's senior officers has been appointed second in'nommand.

The agreement has been well received hv the meat industry, while the Coin monwealth Government is pleased that the agreement is on a yearly basis, rather than quarterly, which would be vcrv difficult to work. Australia now is in a good strategic position for th< ltituio discussions with England.
