AN UNEVENTFUL TRIP

Further particulars respecting . the mishap to the Margaret W. show thai the breakdown occurred when the vessel was about 20 miles West of "Cape Runaway. Shortly after 6 o'clock on Saturday'evening, 'when she had been lying disabled " for about- seven hours, she sighted the-(lights of the Pukeko. A rocket was sent up from the Margaret, W. and the other-vessel, answering the distress signal', altered course and was soon alonguie. TJie„Pukeko secured the Margaret W.'s cable and at about U o'clock the voyage was resumed, with the latter vessel in'tow.

"For a while there was a- moderate westerly wind, with a jumpy sea," said Captain S. Jones, master of the Pukeko, "but as we crossed the Bay of Plenty the wind changed to a light brert/e from the north-east. 'We made six'knots al the start, but later, as conditions became more favorable, increased this to nearly eight knots." The matter was reported by wireless from the Piikeko and when the two vessels arrived off North Head at about 6 o'clock on Cninday evening the tug To Awhina was waiting to take the Mar-aret W. in tow. The vessel was shepherded bv the tug to the Orakei wharf, where the cattle, which constituted the greater part of ..her . cargo, were disembarked. •The accident was to the crankshaft." said Captain J. R. Ow'eti, master ol the Margaret W.. after the vessel had berthed. 'Tt could not be repaired on board, and all we could do was to wait until we sighted another ship. We had a large number of cattle on- board, bid fortunately the weather was quite calm."
