A special meeting of the United Ancient Order of Druids was held at Unity Hall, Nuhaka, this week. There was a good attendance of Wairoa members, who journeyed out in a large motor bus to attend this function. At the close of the meeting the local members dispensed a tasty supper. A most enjoyable time was spent by the visitors and the local Druids. u Two new members were initiated.
The monthly meeting of the Nuhaka Women’s Institute was held ,at the Mission House on AVedncsdav afternoon. (Sister. May Gardiner presided over a smaller attendance than usual. Sister .Grant, district nurse, gave a most interesting lecture on home nursing. This was much appreciated by members, who asked a number of questions. A vote of thanks was accorded (Sister Grant. A discussion took place, in respect of the Drama Festival and exhibition of work. The Institute birthday cake was cut by the president and sampled by members. The j .competition was the best six hen eggs.
Mrs C. Tidswell came first, Miss J. Black, second, Airs. K. Stewart, third. Nominations were received for the general committee. Bister Alay Gardiner, who has occupied the office for the past five years, tendered her resignation as President. Bister May, stated that she found her time too fully occupied. Members expressed their sincere regret, Sister May having rendered yeomen service to the institute. The hostesses were Mesdames A. Glenny, IL \V. Mackenzie, and Nira Whaariga. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a happy afternoon. The many Nuhaka and Wairoa friends of Mr. J. Millar, postmaster, will learn with deep regret, the news of the sudden death of his father, Mr. J. 'Millar, New Plymouth. The sympathy of the whole, community is extended to him. Mr. Millar left for New 'Plymouth on Thursday afternoon. Air. A. Glenny, who has been visiting Napier and Hastings, has returned to Alorere.
