DEATH FROM TETANUS
BOY SUCCUMBS
SIMPLE INJURY
Following a simple injury to his foot, lau Ransom, 13, son of Major and Mrs. E. 0. Ransom, Salvation Army officers at Gisborne, succumbed to tetanus in the Cook Hospital early this morning. The lad had many friends in .the district who will be deeply grieved over his death, and the sympathy of all townpeople will be extended to Major and Mrs. Ransom in their tragic bereavement. While at play at his home, 260 Childers road, a fortnight ago to-morrow, the boy van a, stick into his foot, but, though painful, the injury did not appear to be serious, and by the following Monday to all appearances he had recovered from it, and was able to go swimming last week. On Saturday, however, he became ill, and that evening was admitted to the Cook Hospital, where he was treated for tetanus. The treatment was continued, but the boy failed to recover, and his death occurred at 4.10 a.m. to-day. Master Ransom was born at Rangiora, in the South Island, and came to GisbqniQ when Major and Mrs. Ransom were transferred here last March. He was a pupil of. the Gisborne Central School, where he was a most popular lad with his schoolmates, many of whom called upon Major and Mrs. Ransom this morning to express their sympathy. Tiie funeral will leave the Salvation Army Citadel, where a short service will be held, at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday for the Taruheru cemetery.
