LAWN TENNIS
WAIPIRO BAY TOURNEY

BETTER PROSPECTS TO-DAY
(Special to tlie Herald.) W A TIRO BAY, this day. . The weather I conditions at YVaipiro Bay yesterday w r ere exasperating for those visiting the township for the annual New Year tennis tournament, very little play being possible owing to the effect of rain on the courts. There were intervals when there seemed to be a prospect of further progress on a good scale, but invariably the rain came down again just soon enough to prevent the fixture going on. This morning, the skies looked more promising, and everyone was keen to get on with the competitions. Social activities in Waipiro Bay and in the homesteads of the district settlors have been as bright as ever, and the tournament visitors, though slightly disappointed by the rain which prevented general play yesterday, have no occasion to complain of having nothing to do. Already two big dances have been Held in connection with ttie Tennis Club’s fixture, and everyone in the district is co-operating to nnake the tournament week a memorable one.
The few engagements on tlie courts decided yesterday resulted as under :—, CHAMPIONSHIP SECTION
