Seventeen persons were killed and 41 injured, many gravely, when a Detroit-Toronto express, travelling at (50 miles an hour, followed an open switch and crashed into an excursion train on a siding seven miles from Hamilton.
Three carriages were telescoped
It was difficult to extricate the bodies. The crew worked for two
ours with acetylene torches'in an attempt to free a man who was pinned in a sitting position.
