MELBOURNE, Dec. 20. Though the height of the centenary celenrutions has passed, the street decorations and illuminations are being continued • till next month, when the pyions, Venetian poies and flags will be removed and the streets will resume, their normal appearance. The illuminations are a great factor in preserving the city’s festive appearance, and will uc greatly missed when they are removed. The centenary programme, however, will continue for several mouths, including many international sporting events, athletic and swimming carnivals of world interest. The chairman of the centenary council, Sir Gengoult Smith, described the claim as absurd. He declares that the celebrations have brought and are still bringing thousands of visitors weekly. A complete programme of forthcoming eventy, particularly those relating to Melbourne’s centenary, as against the Victorian centenary, will be announced early in the new year.
