ELECTRIC STORM
DAMAGE AT WAIROA RADIO STATION STRUCK (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A very severe thunderstorm came up from the south-west yesterday afternoon, and circled twice round the Wairoa district. The lightning was very vivid, and at one time several of the flashes broke in the middle, and the centre appeared to roll up into a ball of fire. The last peal of thunder was very heavy. Windows were shakefi in many parts of the town, and considerable damage was done to Mr A. Perry’s radio station, 2ZP, in Queen street. Lightning struck the aerial, and blew out ,and demolished much valuable plant, the estimate of damage being close on £IOO. The plant is still working on a lower system. After the lightning struck the aerial a sheet of flame followed close up to Mr Perry’s residence, but did no further damage. The force of the contact with the aerial was heard in the next two blocks. Not much rain fell.
