CALF CLUB PARADE i i (Herald Correspondent.) There was a large attendance of parents at the Calf Club parade yesteiday morning. The judging was undertaken by Mr. S. Smithers, To Ivaraka, who had no easy task. The parade was held iu ideal weather conditions. Awards were made as follow : August, class. —Type: Kathleen Cameron, 1> Jean Cameron, h.e. Condition: Arnold Brown, 1; Margaret Bail ley, h.c. September class—Type and condition: Joe f’rendcrgast, 1; Bosalie Hall, h.c. The judge addressed the pupils and parents and gave useful hints on the care and handling of calves, and the gathering showed its appreciation by a round of applause. Mr. Ib (L Lockhart, agriculture inspector for Hie Hawke’s Bay Education Board, referred to the improvements in handling and condition and the evidence of care shown by the public.
The Puha Women’s Institute entertained the Puha children to a Christmas tree aud party held in the Puha School grounds yesterday afternoon. Santa Claus arrived on a sledge with a laden Christmas tree and every child received a present. The headmaster. 'Mr. Mclntyre, and Mr. J. Barr, a member of the school committee, thanked the members of the institute for their delightful afternoon. Mr. J. Barr presented awards to the following: Dux medal.—Kathleen Cameron. Brolieiency certificates.—Kathleen Cameron, Bosalie Hall. Richard Dyrnock, Robert Coates, Robert Robertson. Competency. Pheniie McAllister and Milly Bob.-’ Tennis championships.—Girls, senior : Mill> Bob. Girls, junior: Sophie Ruru. Boys, senior: Robert 'Coates. Boys, junior: Robert. Coates. Trophy for the best-kept- garden.— Phemie McAllister and Doris Peach. A delicious afternoon lea served, by the institute members was) much appreciated. On behalf of the school children, Phemie McAllister presented Mrs. R. D. Dyrnock and Mrs. JGraham each with a beautiful bouquet of carnations.
