FARMER KILLED
VAN GOES OVER BANK (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. Fatal injuries were sustained by J. HManley, a married man, a farmer, of Westmere, and recently secretary of tho Wanganui Y.M.C.A., on a journey from Wanganui to Raetihi yesterday. He was driving a light delivery van, and in attempting to pass a lorry some 52 miles from Wanganui, the van left, tho road and careered down a steep bank for about 100 ft. It was impossible for the lorry driver, Mr. J. Mitchell, to do anything to assist the unfortunate man until the arrival of ropes and breakdown appliances some two hours later. After an arduous task, Mr. Manley was rescued and brought to the road by means cf a woolpack and ropes, but was in a very serious condition, and died on route to hospital from internal injuries. The deceased leaves a widow and five young children.
