MONTHLY MEETING There was a .fair Attendance at the monthly meeting, of the Patutahi Women’s Institute, held ixT the Patutahi Hall on Tuesday night. It was the final gathering of the institute for this year. The next, meeting will be held in February. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames G. V. Smith, Meredith and .Sutherland.
As a result of the good work of the entertainment circle arrangements for the Christmas tree function to-night are well in hand. Special mention was made by the president of the interesting and instructive handcraft work the improvement circle had carried out during the year. In this connection Mrs Daniel’s willingness to assist with her time and talent was sU'lyjeet to appreciative comment, and :a presentation was made to her in recognition of her good services. Mention was made of the kindness of Mrs John Johnstone, Who had' brought' demonstrators and Gisborne members to the meeting«>ach month, ‘ A discussion ensued on the changing of the institute day from the second Tuesday in the month to the first Wednesday in the month. On a show of hands it was unanimously decided that the next meeting should be held on the first Wednesday in February. An artistic and capable demonstration of icing a ‘Christmas cake in different colors was given by Mrs and Miss Ritchie. The exhibition was much appreciated and the demonstrators were accorded a vote of thanks.
The two competitions resulted «s follows:—Silk lamp shade: Mrs Peach, 1; Mrs G. Scragg, 2; Mrs G. V. Smith, 3. Gift not to exceed 2s: Miss R. Atkins, 1; Mrs Peach, 2; 'Mrs ,1. Atkins, 3. , The making of a seagtass stool was demon strafed by Mrs H. J. Monteith. In order to witness this display a party of WhareratA Women’s Institute members had made a special trip and they were in no way disappointed with what they learned. The commission table, in charge of Mesdames 'Shanks and Lange, was well patronised. Nominations for the committee for ID3.T were called for by .the president. Mesdames G. Dodds, A. Waddell, Hogan, I). Campbell and ,T. Robb were the hostesses.
