AGREEMENT REACHED
WATERSIDE LABOR Increase in wages (Per Press Association.) Wellington, this day. A substantial increase in hourly wages, as well as improvements in working conditions, are .the main points of an agreement between the waterside workers and the employers. It was explained at; a Stop-work meeting attended by 1000 on Wednesday that it was proposed that the basic wage should be raised from 2s lo 2s 2d. Increases had been arranged in the case of special cargoes, and there were minor improvements in regard to conditions.
The agreement will he explained to ouch constituent union, and ballots will be held, returnable not later than December 29. The Wellington ballot was fixed for December 21.
It was also explained at the meeting that the bureau system of engaging labor had been agreed upon. It vas intended that this system should ifie first tried out m Wellington.
