■The .reception committee which is conducting the preparations for receiving the Duke of Gloucester at Gisborne has received a: further contribution to its expenses, in the form of a cheque for £5 os from the IJawa County Council. Mr E- T. Doddrell, managingdirector of Messrs. Adair Bros., Limited, has intimated to the committee that his firm will be pleased to urrange for suitable carpets for the dais and stairs at the Childers road reserve. Contributions of £25 from the Waikohu County Council, and of £1 Is from the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association were received to-day by the Mayor, Mr. John Jackson, on behalf of ’'the committee. No. 3 ward at the Cook Hospital was the scene of a happy gathering last evening, when a concert in aid of the Christmas cheer fund drew a capacity “house.” The programme was an extremely good one, and a principal contributor was Mr. Frank Perrin, the chief comedian of the Stanley McKay Revue Company, who was encored repeatedly, and seemed to have air inexhaustible store ofjKttty stories, monologues, comic songs, mt patter. He was given an ovation by the audience, after bolding the stage for a long period, and was reluctantly allowed to • retire. Leading Gisborrte amateur entertainers also contributed' to the programme, vocal quartets bebig given by R. and A. Allan, Caulton, and W. Kohn; instrumental trios by Messrs. Lionel Harris, Frank Wise, and. Frank Neill; dance numbers by Misses Shone, Scott, Millard and Sheila . Munro ; duets by Messrs. Rees add Athol Allan, and by Miss R. McCarthy and Mr. F. Neill. Every item was warmly applauded, and at the close of the programme Mr. F. C. A.
