patutahi Slower show RECORD ENTRIES (Herald Correspondent.) On Thursday afternoon nil roads led to Patutahi, the attraction being the annual flower show held under the auspices of the Patutahi branch of the Women’s Institute. Favored by ideal weather conditions and record entries, the function must be voted the most successful yet lleitl, drkl ‘the Energetic committee iiilder the joint seefetiu'yship oi Mrs. T. Peel and Miss Amy Ritchie, responsible for the arrangements which were carried , out to the minutest detail without a hitch, is to be highly . congratulated. The following were the judges: — Roses, sweet pens and miscellaneous floral section, Mr. Alexander Thompson anil Mr. E. Cdlcott; decorative, Mesdanics S. D. Nathan and F. AVrey Nolan; cookery, Mrs. J. EiVcrs; homo industries, Mrs. McLernon; needlework, Mrs. Robinson; schools section, Rev. 11. Speight. A full Pleasure of tlulnks is due to the judges for the capable manner in which they carried oiit their duties.

ju most*.sect ions the judges commented favorably on the number and quality of the entries, a high standard being achieved in many cases. In the cbokcry section the work.was of such a. high quality that judging was difficult, discrimination between the placed entries being no easy task. The numerous winning exhibits of Miss Rita Atkins were of unusual merit. The decorative section compared favorably with much larger shows.

The function was opened by the Rev. FT. Speight, who briefly outlined the mod work of both au educational and a social, nature, that is being accomplished y Women's Institutes both in the centres as well as,in the mbre isolated districts.. The organisations created a healthy community, interest and friendly rivalry, bringing Viht latent talent that would* otherwise remain hidden. Afternoon tea was served ih an adjoining room on tables artistically adorned with seasonal blooms, a willing band of ladies helping in this direction. . At the conclusion of the function Miss E. Bilham, the president of the branch, presented the prizes. She thanked all who had assisted in making the show such an unqualified success, specially petitioning the joint secretaries.
