tribute ey coroner able & ZEALOUS OFFICER A tribute to the memory of Gonsta>le Thomas Keeps of Mornnsvillc, who was murdered at Tatuaniu on Octobm 20 y the Maori, Hcnarc Hona, who was wanted by the police in connection witn the deaths of the Davenport fainilj, was paid bv the coroner, Mr. S. L. Liteison, S.M., at the conclusion of the inquests at Hamilton touching the deaths of the ionstable and the Maori. n Ah- Paterson said lie had known Constable Keeps for seven years and had found him 1o lie a capable and conscientious police officer. He had cann out his duties with zeal, hut with kmdness and consideration lor others, tonstable Keeps was a good citizen, and Jus untimely death was a loss not only to the police force of New Zealand, but also to the country. , , , r Detective A. J. White thanked Mr. Paterson for his kindly references, tonstable Keeps, ho said, was not only » capable officer, hut he was a loving msbund and a kind parent. The members of the police force were extremely proud that, hr died doing his duty, and ins death was deeply deplored.
