BARON DE ROTHSCHILD SPENT MILLIONS ON JEWS (Received Nuv. 3. 3.30 p.m.) PARIS, Nov.. 2. The death oecimed to-day ol Baron ( i° Rothschild, whose art collection m the greatest in Europe. He spent millions providing homes in Palestine lor German Jewish exiles. Mr. Stephen Janies Weston, who has died at Whangarei. aged 75. was elnet engineer of the old coastal steamei Clansman for 25 years. He served with the Northern Steamship Company lor 4o years. The death of Mr. William Cut-field, an old Taranaki settler, occurred 011 Thursday. at his home in Renniera. Mr. C utfield was born in England in 1360 and came to New. Zealand in 1875, immediately going to Taranaki, in the early history of which province his uncles, Captain King, R.N., and Air. George Cultield, were prominently identifiedThe latter was superincmlent of Taranaki from February, 1857. to July, 18ql. Mr. Cutfield went in for farming, and in 1880 took up a property at Tataramaika, Taranaki, remaining there until he retired to live in New Plymouth in 1900. He moved to Auckland, in 1920. Mrs Rosalie Juliet Josephine Young, kj, who passed away at Christchurch recentlv. was the second daughter of; Dr. \V.‘ E. Ilea in, LL-.D., D.C.L., prolessor of Greek at Queen’s College, Galway, Ireland, and subsequently of Melbourne University. Atier a bril ,|ia nt scholastic career .4u- married the late Mr.lames Voting, of Warrnnmbool Downs sialion. Queensland. The family fortunes suffered as a result of the slump of the early ’nineties, and Mr- Yeung took-up an appommoiu with the New Zealand Fanners’ Dairy Union. After 2M years’ residence. in Palmerston X. they moved to Christ,church. Her on 1 v surviving son is the Von. Arelideacnn J. if. Voting. M.A., vicar of Wanganui.
