MOTORISTS’ PROTESTS
DIVERSION OF TAXES EXTRA RUNNING COSTS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. It, is calculated by the Automobile Association, Wellington; that the extra wear and tear on motor cars, due to the lion-expenditure of motor tax money on roads, costs motor car owners of New Zealand £1,000,000 a year. Several speakers at ■ the annual meeting of the association last night expressed dissatisfaction at the position. The president, Sir Alexander Roberts, said that it was estimatedJhat the total motor taxes amounted to £3,000,000, and of that nearly £2,000,000 was being transferred to purposes for which it had not been intended.
