BURGLARS AT WORK

MISCHIEF AT KAHUTIA RAID ON BOWLING CLUB M UOII .DAM All I*) SUIT KURD A considerable amount of damage was done at the Kahutia Bowling Club s pavilion on Saturday night by burgnirs who showed little uiscrnniuation in regard to the selection of material. The doors ol the pavilion, which had been securely locked at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, were broken open, and all the lockers in the building, maintained by individual members, had been forced and ransacked, while a good deal oi property belonging to the club and to individual members was taken

The scene in the locker-room of the pavilion was a sorry one when the damage was discovered yesterday morning, members’ belongings being scattered about the floors. Many pairs of sboes and a number of hats were taken by tho overmgnr, visitors, who also stole six Rooster badges held by tho Kahutia club for the time being, and a pair of bowls belonging to the cltib secretary. A small amount of liquor, found in the locker of one member, was. also taken by the burglars, who helped themselves liberally to the cigarettes, tobacco, and biscuits, of which a stock is kept' in the pavilion for members' requirements. That the damage was done by someone with more than a child’s strength is indicated by the damage to the main doors of the clubhouse. It is calculated that a considerable amount of force was exerted in this entry, and that the mischief created by the removal of hats and shoes from the lockers was intended to convey the impression that boys had carried out the raid. The burglary had an interesting sequel this morning when the set of bowls missed yesterday was found to have been put over the fence of the club’s properly, near the main entrance.
